Prof. Dr. Derya Balbay is working at the urology departments of Koç University School of Medicine and American Hospital.

EDUCATION

He graduated from Hacettepe University School of Medicine in 1985 and received his Urology Specialization Training at Hacettepe University. He worked as visiting clinicial at Mayo Clinic Urology Department and U.T.M.D. Anderson Cancer Centre Urology Department. He was also Clinical Fellow Urooncology at U.T.M.D. Anderson Cancer Centre Urology Department.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

He started his professional career as a lecturer at İnönü School of Medicine Department of Urology. He worked as an associate professor Ankara Numune Hospital Urology Clinic and clinic chief at Ankara Atatürk Training Research Hospital Urology Clinic. He worked as a Prof. Dr. At Mustafa Kemal University School of Medicine Department of Urology, Memorial Şişli Hospital Urology Clinic. Prof. Dr. Derya Balbay is presently working at the urology departments of Koç University School of Medicine and American Hospital.

MEMBERSHIP

He is a member of American Urological Association, European Association of Urology, Societe International d’Urologie, Turkish Association of Urology, Endourology Association, Avrasya Urooncology Association.

ACHIEVEMENTS

He has more than a thousand robotic surgery experience. He performed the surgery of creating a new bladder from the small intestines for the first time in Turkey, using a fully robotic and closed method. For the first time in the world, he performed the removal of the urinary canal, bladder, lymph nodes, and the creation of a new bladder from the small intestines with a completely robotic method in the same session. Received the 2019 U.T.M.D. Anderson Cancer Center "Distinguished Alumnus" Award.
