Complications & Management of Abdominal Laparoscopic Surgery Course

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:

Basic knowledge on laparoscopy will be presented. Training on laparoscopic and suturing skills will be given including depth perception, dexterity, instrument handling and pattern cutting. Course content will follow European Basic Laparoscopic Urological Skills (E-BLUS) training program. How to choose instruments, air insufflations and access will be explained. Preventing, recognising and management of complications will be discussed. Hands-on training on porcine models under anaesthesia will be offered depending on the specialty including urology, general surgery and gynecology. Laparoscopic surgical management of bowel injury, ureteral injury, minor and major vascular injury, parenchymal organs (spleen and liver) will be shown.

JOINT COURSE CONTENT:

  • Lectures on laparoscopic instruments

  • Training on laparoscopic simulators and training-boxes

  • Management of complications:

– Minor & major vascular injury repair by using homeostatic agents, cautery, vessels sealers and intracorporeal laparoscopic suturing

– Bowel injury repair with intracorporeal laparoscopic suturing

– Ureteral and urinary bladder injury repair with intracorporeal laparoscopic suturing

– Parenchymal organ injury repair (spleen & liver) by using homeostatic agents, cautery, vessels sealers and intracorporeal laparoscopic suturing

GENERAL SURGERY COURSE CONTENT:

  • Hands-on training on porcine models under general anaesthesia:

– Performing abdominal port placement.

– Performing laparoscopic anterior resection

– Performing intra-corporeal bowel anastomosis

– ICG application and evaluation of intraoperative perfusion

GYNECOLOGY COURSE CONTENT

  • Hands-on training on porcine models under anaesthesia:

– Retroperitoneal dissection and ureterolysis

– Hysterectomy

– Lymphadenectomy

– Sacral colpopexy

UROLOGY COURSE CONTENT:

Hands-on training on porcine models under anaesthesia:

– Performing abdominal port placement

– Performing laparoscopic partial nephrectomy

– Performing laparoscopic nephrectomy & nephroureterectomy
